My website administrator has recently brought to my attention that the following aliases (screen names) are all associated with the same IP address (202.88.89.89):

  • Nicky
  • Lativa
  • John Jr.
  • Ramona
  • Plato (although Ramona later said this was a typo in a post that followed)
  • Pauline
  • Martina
  • Alice
  • Carnaag the Magician
  • Mary

For a full listing of comments that have been attributed to multiple aliases coming from one computer, please click here.

This means that all of the above forum participants are either using the same computer… or they are all one and the same person.

I have no problem whatsoever with anonymous posts or the use of aliases.  It’s fine if people wish to post their real names, and it’s fine if they don’t.  We don’t need to know everyone’s true identity to carry on an intelligent discussion of the issues.  But when one person pretends to be multiple people all weighing in with multiple (but similar) opinions on an issue, and even pretends to be engaged in dialogue with his own aliases – well, that is not only deceptive and dishonest, it is insulting to the other commentors who participate in this forum with a sincere interest in exploring the issues.

Please, folks — and especially Nicky/Lativa/Ramona/John Jr./Martina/Pauline/Alice/Carnaag/Mary, etc. — have some respect.  It’s ok to disagree on the issues, and it’s ok to use aliases.  But let’s not use aliases to deliberately skew the conversation, insult other participants, and promote our own agendas.  That is not true dialogue.  And it is totally disrespectful.

Ahhh…technology! Isn’t it great? You can’t hide anything. Thanks for bringing it to the attention of those who truly want a transparent dialogue.

Tina,

You have a very efficient webmaster/server!KUDOS! I think that whoever is doing that multiple user/one computer must be very naive or just a plain idiot on thinking that he/she will not get noticed!HA! Please weed out these people since they contribute nothing to the common good of everyone!

Regarding Aliases, perhaps the person has a multiple personality, or because of hard times, 20 people are sharing one computer?

Salas on 26 October, 2007 at 10:58 am Comment ID #351

would each personality be allowed to vote?

Kimo Mafnas Rosario on 27 October, 2007 at 2:59 pm Comment ID #369

That would certainly be interesting to see Mr. Salas if considered. Perhaps we should subscribe and adopt something similar to the notorious “3/5 compromise” when applying such; three personalities equates to 1 vote. LOL!!! Nice forum by the way.

lol!

i certainly hope that participants of this forum are real people because i really enjoy the healthy discussions they provide. additionally, i want to suggest that candidates or other public officials who visit this forum should strongly consider using their real names and not resort to the use of aliases. why? it’s the right and moral thing to do.

“kilili” has already set that example.

I second that Mr. PoliTrix… oh wait a sec we both are using an alias. :-)

I have no problem with the alias thing. I do have a problem with what Tina has pointed out: One person using multiple aliases and then carrying on a coversation in this forum with his/her other aliases. :-)

lol! true plato! but i’m neither a candidate, a member of any special interest group, or a public official. i’m just a participant of the forum. we both are!!! =)

What an interesting discovery.

I have no problem with aliases, either, but one to a customer! Especially in a forum like this, where the goal is honest discussion.

What happens if you post from a computer network that is shared with others? Would everyone have the same id or is it tied to the hardware/ computer?

Just wondering.
